Music and Parks: Parks Canada

April 26, 2011

Our neighbors to the north at Parks Canada have recently celebrated their centennial as the world’s first park service.

To mark this event, they are working with FilmCAN, Primitive Entertainment, and Discover World HD to send 39 musicians into 13 of Canada’s national parks to create music while reconnecting with the natural world.  The artists leave behind all of their luxurious amenities and embark on a musical journey that is documented and known as the National Parks Project.

Recently featured in Mashable, this innovative strategy to market parks and create awareness using contemporary artists such as the Smashing Pumpkins and Broken Social Scene is an amazing collaboration between music and public lands. The videos are currently only available in Canada but there are plans to release them in the US.  All proceeds from the project go to the Nature Conservancy.

Below is the amazing trailer for this project and visit their website for more information (Note: The website is extremely media filled and requires broadband connection and flash updates).
